Meet the Scholars: Coleman Simpson

Meet Coleman, our ‘18-‘19 Peer Mentor!

“My name is Coleman Simpson, and I’m a senior majoring in Agricultural Science and Political Science. My major hobbies include musical theatre, student organizations, and reading.

I first got interested in the Oaks Leadership Scholars because I wanted be able to understand the academic and real-world applications of social justice and leadership. My main focus within the Oaks Scholars is looking specifically at issues related to the LGBTQIA+ and disability communities, as well as creating greater access for marginalized communities in agriculturally related youth organizations through policy research and proposals. My main goal this year is to continue to engage more with other communities and develop further research and recommendations on systemic, inclusive policies for youth organizations.

I plan on attending graduate school once I graduate in the Spring, and I hope to either go into higher education or government to continue this work and create inclusive policies. I’m so excited to continue my learning journey through the Oaks program this year, and I can’t wait to see what impacts the program creates on my fellow scholars, and the impacts they make on our community and the world.”
