Meet the Scholars: Justin Lindemann

Meet Justin, one of our ‘18-‘19 scholars!

“Hi I’m Justin Lindemann, I’m a junior, double majoring in Environmental Science and Political Science.

What got me interested in applying and eventually joining the Oaks Leadership Scholars Program was the focus on social justice, as well as the environment of inclusivity that I felt when going through the process of interviewing and finally making it in. The connections and the experience that this experience will give me is another reason as to why I wanted to embark on this journey.

My goals for the 2018-2019 school year are to finish each semester with a strong showing of grades and work ethic and to end on a note that I can be proud of. Furthermore, I want to explore new facets of environmental activism and social justice through volunteer work and involvement in anything that comes my way this year, while balancing my health (physical and mental) and work.

What I plan to do after I graduate ties in both of my majors in some fashion. I hope to go into the field of environmental research and look at the political climate of nations, the cultures that make it up, and the wildlife, to reach some sort of conclusion on how all of it ties into the treatment of the environment in each nation, hopefully leading to a solution on how to educate people and create systems of action against climate change.

I hope that the experience and work done in the program will energize me to continue on the path that I have set forth and improve the skills that I have now, through critical learning and praxis.”
